Barons Beat San Clemente in Thriller

Zack Richartz's 3-pointer at the buzzer gave Fountain Valley a 60-58 win.

Senior Zack Richartz knocked down a 3-pointer at the buzzer as Fountain Valley overcame a dismal second quarter Wednesday to beat San Clemente 60-58 in the second round of the La Quinta Shootout.

Senior Nathan Moss led the Barons with 19 points. Junior Tanner Trounce added 14 points, while Senior Sean Myers went for 10 points and Richartz finished with 11.

The Barons stormed out of the gates in the first quarter, but went cold in the second right as San Clemente was moving in the opposite direction and turned a 19-7 second quarter in a 32-25 halftime lead.

Fountain Valley made a run of its own in the third quarter, outscoring San Clemente 20-12 to take a 45-44 lead into the fourth.

The Barons will look for their third straight win Friday night in the semifinal round.
