National MS Society and Fountain Valley MS Center at Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center Hosts 14th Annual MS Symposium 2014

Southern California’s Top Thought Leaders to Present Advances and Latest Updates on Exercise and Rehabilitation Programs, July 12th

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CA – In its annual effort to improve the quality of life for the more than 45,500 people affected by multiple sclerosis (MS) in San Diego, Imperial and Orange County, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society – Pacific South Coast Chapter and Fountain Valley Multiple Sclerosis Center at Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center are co-sponsoring the 14th annual MS Symposium on Saturday, July 12th from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The event will take place at the Irvine Marriott located at 18000 Von Karman Ave. in Irvine.

Keynote Speakers for the event include: Dr. William Hornstein, director of the Fountain Valley Multiple Sclerosis Center at Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center, Assistant Clinical Professor of Neurology at the UCLA School of Medicine and residing member on the Board of Trustees of the National MS Society – Pacific South Coast Chapter; Kathy SanMartino,  physical therapist and neurological supervisor and clinical coordinator at Casa Colina Centers of Rehabilitation’s Outpatient Center in Pomona; Denise Nowack, registered dietician and executive vice president of the National MS Society – Southern California Chapter; and Patrick LoSasso, a certified strength and conditioning specialist with Distinction, who specializes in fitness for seniors and those afflicted with neurological and movement disorders. The speakers will provide the latest information and answer questions from attendees about the most effective exercise and rehabilitation programs available for MS sufferers.

“We are extremely excited about this year’s panel of speakers and are grateful for their participation in this important event,” said Dr. Hornstein, who along with his wife Deborah, received the National Multiple Sclerosis Lifetime Commitment Award and were named Volunteers of the Year in 2013. “For MS sufferers, a specialized exercise and rehabilitation program can significantly enhance their quality life and enable them to remain highly functioning members of society. Our goal is to present them with the latest information about these programs so that they and their caregivers can make informed decisions about their health care.”
