Annual 5k Fun Run Begins Feb. 9

Think of it as an early Valentine’s Day present for the fit.

The annual Anytime Fitness 5k Fun Run begins Feb. 9 at the Fountain Valley Recreation Center at 16400 Brookhurst Street.

The event raises money for than 30 local nonprofits, and the registration fee goes to the nonprofit of the runner’s choice.

Before noon Feb 4, the entry fee is $20 per runner and includes a t-shirt. After the Feb. 4 deadline, registration increases to $30. On-site registration begins at 7 a.m. and the 5k begins at 8 a.m.

In 2012, the event raised more than $21,000 for the participating nonprofits, according to a release from the Fountain Valley Community Foundation. The foundation is co-hosting the event with the Fountain Valley Recreation and Community Services Division.

The race goes on rain or shine.

The event will also include an optional one mile run, which begins at 8:45 a.m. 1st place runners 12-years-old and younger will receive an award.

During registration, runners choose which nonprofit their fee will support. Runner can pick up their numbered bibs at Sports Authority at 9065 Warner Avenue, Feb. 2, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Feb. 8, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. All runners will also receive a 15 percent discount at the store.

Event sponsors include Anytime Fitness, Fountain Valley Regional Hospital, Fountain Valley Bodyworks, Independence Bank, Non-Surgical Spine Center, Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center, Rainbow Environmental Services, Rosy Dental and A Snail’s Pace
