Fountain Valley Residents Share Memories on Facebook Page

'You know you grew up in Fountain Valley if...' runs the gamut from teachers to drive-in movies to memorable pranks.

Fountain Valley has become part of a growing number of communities whose residents are connecting with one another through "You know you grew up in..." Facebook pages.

The Fountain Valley page already has nearly 1,700 members, and has quickly evolved into a virtual class reunion of sorts, where common memories are shared and nostalgia takes center stage.

Predictably, wo of the more popular discussion thread involve former Fountain Valley High School students' opinion about the school's best and worst teachers. But other threads are much more specific, including one where locals reminisce about a favorite ballpark treat known as the Chili Billie. Group member Wayne Jones was able to provide several grateful fellow members with the recipe.

"David, try this. Tostitos rounds. Chili no beans. Shredded sharp chedder. Heat chili. Place layer of tostitos in pie tin, then chili, then cheese, then layer of tostitos, chili and top with cheese. Stick under broiler in your over for about two minutes (watch it to make sure it doesn't burn). Tada"

Another popular thread asked members to list the last movie they saw at the now-defunct Fountain Valley Drive-In, which was located on Brookhurst Street where . The drive-in closed in 1984, but not before a host of modern classics were screened there, including Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, which at least one member saw (but didn't hear) from his upstairs window across the street.

Last, but certainly not least, members are sharing their accounts of the most memorable pranks between Fountain Valley High and archrival Edison High. Today's students have their work cut out for them if they want to match some of these doozies: sharks hung from flagpoles, gyms flooded, pools filled with frogs, gelatin, and (wait for it) a car. And then there were the paint balloons (or maybe it was ping pong balls) dropped on Edison from—a helicopter? True or not, it's a perfect reflection of what this Facebook group is all about.
