Great Escape: Library Maven

When you need a change of pace, the library has much to offer.

As a freelance writer, I have the great boon of being able to work from home, while my daughter is in school and my hubby is at work. The downside is that I can get a bit stir crazy, just sitting in the house day after day, typing on the computer.

I could go do some work at the local Starbucks, but it’s a business, and I always feel odd sitting and working while people line up to buy coffee. So, my great escape is the Fountain Valley Library.

You’ve probably been there with the kids and to check out books for yourself, but there is more to the library than you may imagine. I like to bring my laptop and make use of the free wi-fi. There are comfy armchairs, a fireplace, and many tables and desks that make it easy for me to work and get away from the house.

The library has hundreds of current magazines, so when I need a break from working, I step on over and select a few favorites. I save on subscriptions and if there is a recipe or article that I like, there’s a convenient copier, so I can make a copy to take home.

The Fountain Valley library also has a lovely outdoor patio area hidden in the back. It features a fountain, tables with umbrellas, and lovely trees, plants and flowers.  Overlooking a park next door, it’s a great place to sit in the sun and read a book.

So the next time you want a quiet retreat to work or read, consider an escape to the libary.
