June Is Adopt a Cat Month

There are many kitties looking for homes this month.

June is a fantastic month: the official start of summer, schools get out, time to break out the grill, and it is Adopt a Cat Month. More kittens are born in the spring and summer than at any other time. Most cats in Southern California go into heat in January or February of each year, producing their litters in about 65 days. The fur babies stay with their mothers until they are seven to eight weeks old. If you are looking to adopt a cat or kitten, now is a great time—and you don't even have to travel far from home.

This weekend there are several kitten and cat adoption events scheduled here in Fountain Valley. Completely run by volunteer rescue groups, these events are an excellent place to began your search.

MeoowzResQ has kittens for adoption at Pet Supply, 18545 Brookhurst St., from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The OC Animal League will be hosting a kitten adoption at PetSmart, 17940 Newhope St., from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Both organizations do wonderful work by promoting spaying and neutering, rescuing abused and homeless cats, providing veterinary care and  finding homes for the cats they take in.
