Seniors Strut Their Stuff at Valentine's Day Fashion Show

'Fit and Fabulous' event benefits local senior meal programs.

Fountain Valley’s Center at Founders Village hopped with excitement on Valentine’s afternoon when resident models primped and paraded down the red carpet at the senior and community center. “Fit and Fabulous” was the theme of the event where proceeds benefitted area senior citizen programs.

“The fashion show has turned out to be a big success,” said Community Services Supervisor Nora Webb about the filled room. “The theme, ‘Forever Young,’ has been fun for everyone involved.”

The event served a greater purpose, helping to fund senior meals programs in the area. “Currently, we serve lunches every Tuesday and Thursday,” Webb said, “and we are so lucky to have about 100 volunteer helpers show up for every lunch day. Additionally, home meal delivery is available to those who need a little help, and the big benefit is that the meals keep seniors able to live independently. They just need to microwave the delivered meals, and most enjoy visiting with the friendly meal delivery volunteers as an added bonus.”

Celebrating senior health and beauty, the program began with vocal selections by Calvin Coker, and fashions and commentary were provided by Draper's and Damon’s. Fashions included mid-range budget garments with style and appeal to the active senior set. Dresses, leisure wear and semi-formal attire were presented, along with laundry and care instructions for each. The emcee kept the program lively with a few jokes, and she bantered with the models—all in good fun.

The models, all Fountain Valley locals, seemed to be having the time of their lives. One had dance moves fit for a stage, one sashayed like she’d been born on a runway. One flashed a red feather boa—her own accessory touch—and one veered off the runway path, delivering kisses to handsome gentlemen in attendance. The emcee noted that the models had been instructed to stay on the red carpet without exception, but when you get past 80, you don’t have to listen to anyone.
