The Shedding Season Is Here

Our expert pet columnist offers her favorite solution.

It is that time of year, pet hair everywhere, littering your couch and floor, clinging to your clothes. What is a pet parent to do? The number one complaint among pet owners is shedding. It is an ongoing problem that just wont go away. Shedding is a natural response to the hair growth cycle of animals and is related to seasonal changes. Shedding is cued by changes in the amount of daylight. Spring shedding is the most troublesome, the heavy winter coat is shedded and replaced by a light summer coat.

There is an exceptional product on the market designed to solve the problem of shedding. It is the FURminator, a hand-sized brush designed to grab and remove the loose undercoat fur. This is a deshedding product like no other. I have personally used the FURminator on my own pets for more than three years and experienced excellent results. Fur flies off your pet, just like if you were sheering a sheep. The FURminator comes in many different sizes for dogs and cats and smaller animals such as rabbits. It can be used daily for maximum effect on dogs, and weekly for cats and rabbits. As little as five minutes a day can yield impressive results.

By using this handy pet tool on a regular basis, you will see a large reduction in the amount of pet hair in your home. It is a great idea to use the deshedder outdoors and be ready for copious amounts of fur. The FURminator company also offers a premium shampoo designed to reduce shedding.
