Here She Comes, Miss Future California?

The Miss Fountain Valley Scholarship Pageant is back tonight after a 20-year hiatus. With 12 hopefuls competing for the coveted 2012 crown, one young woman will move a step closer toward becoming the next Miss California.

A dream will come true tonight for one lucky young lady from Fountain Valley.

Tonight the Miss Fountain Valley Scholarship Pageant makes its long-anticipated return to the stage, under the bright lights and before an anticipated sellout crowd at the Saigon Perfofrming Arts Center, 6 p.m.

For some of the 12 young women, the pagaent will mean validation. For others, affirmation. But for one special contestant it will mean confirmaton that she has what it takes to be crowned Miss Fountain Valley and will take that next step toward becoming the next Miss California.

Keeli Scott Lisack, executive director of the pageant and Miss Fountain Valley Class of 1977, said earlier this week that she expects to be busy right up until showtime, but having the event only days away is exciting for everyone involved in the production that was more than a year in the making.

"We've been busy, but it's an exciting time," said Lisack, a successful local businesswoman and the daughter of five-time Fountain Valley Mayor George Scott. "I just hope we have enough room for everybody."

Considering that the pagaent has been non-existent for the past 20 years, after a successful run, a packed room seems like a good problem to have.

The 12 girls, ages 17-24, who either live, work or go to school in Fountain Valley, will be competing for $15,000 in scholarships. Lisack said that resurrecting the pageant has been a dream of hers for many years.

“My parents moved here in 1963 when I was five years old. I went to Fountain Valley elementary schools and graduated from Fountain Valley High School, so I have that heritage," Lisack siad. "The last time we had a pageant, I was the director. It is a very historic event.”

The pageant is tied to the Miss America organization so the young ladies will be judged in swim suit competition, evening gown competition, an on-stage question/answer, and an interview that took place beforehand. There will be seven judges from the community and Miss America organization, and the Masters of Ceremonies will be Carrie Prejean, Miss California 2009 and runner-up to Miss America 2010.

As Prejean will atest, some dreams do come true.
