Fountain Valley Business Awards Return Tuesday

The Chamber of Commerce will choose three top businesses at the 11:30 a.m. event at Los Caballeros Racquet and Sports Club.

After a long hiatus, a local awards show highlighting Fountain Valley businesses will return Tuesday.

The Fountain Valley Chamber of Commerce 2012 Business Awards will take place at 11:30  a.m. at the Los Caballeros Racquet and Sports Club at 17272 Newhope Street.

According to organizers, it’s been about 15 years since the last chamber business awards ceremony. Chamber officials will present awards to the top businesses in three categories: Entrepreneurship, Environmentally Conscious and Community Spirit.

“It is a way to say thank you and acknowledge their efforts,” said Mary Parsons, Chamber president and CEO.

And, Parsons said, emphasizing the importance of shopping local to bring in tax dollars to the city doesn't hurt.

One of the nominees hoping to win is Kathy Zuts, the owner of Bra Garden. At her store, Zuts said she aims to help woman find the perfect bra and hopes to educate her customers about the best bra for their body type.

For Zuts, finding the right bra is an art, and a way to put logic back into “bra-ville,” as she calls it. When she took the leap from fitting bras at Nordstrom to starting her own business, skeptics were against the idea, according to Zuts.

But she went after her goal and in just three months she opened Bra Garden. Her business has thrived since..

“I am very proud to be in the local neighborhood,” Zuts said. “I believe our cities will thrive by building better businesses in the community. It has been a part of my dream to be apart of the community, to give back as much as i can, so I hire locally and do as much business locally as I can,”
