Frugal Family: Deals of the Week

You can find great deals at Fountain Valley consignment and resale stores.

This week at Frugal Family, we took a look at one of the best sources for awesome deals – consignment and second-hand stores. A lightly used item at a significant discount is a nice way to get the stuff you want and save the money you need

1. is a 4,000-square-foot used-book haven. There are more than 100,000 volumes in a wide assortment - fiction and non-fiction, hardbacks and paperbacks. The books are sold at a significant discount and many are as good as new, having been read only once. I picked up an art book for my daughter that looked new, at 50 percent off the cover price. Camelot will also buy back your used books, making it a source of income, as well as a source of savings.

2. is one of my favorite resale spots, and I spent many a happy shopping day there when my daughter was little. They sell (and buy) lightly used children’s clothing from size 0-3 months all the way up to size 12.  Exclusively for Patch readers, Children’s Orchard is offering 10 percent off of any resale clothing purchases. Just print this article and bring it into the store for your discount, good through March 30.

3.  For fabulous home goods, try . They resell furniture and décor that has been used in model homes at 30 to 70 percent off. Wear and tear varies, but there is a huge assortment of everything for the home. It’s always fun to visit, because there is a constant flow of new merchandise.

4. Stacy’s Closet has been open since November and is a consignment store for designer branded women’s clothing, shoes, and bags. The store is stylish and well-organized, with a wide array of lightly-worn name brands at deep discounts. I went there to research this article and ended up buying a pair of nifty black boots and a pretty silver ring.

5. is the place to go for great prices on used video games of every type.  We like shopping for used Nintendo DS games from $7.99 to $14.99, and for used Wii games, too. Game Stop will also buy back your used games and give you credit to go shopping in the store.
