Frugal Family: Deals of the Week

Get ready for spring with great deals for your garden.

April is National Garden Month, and now is a great time to assess your garden and start your spring planting. We have some great local deals to get your green thumb started:

1. New to Fountain Valley is Garden Design Warehouse, which offers high-style house and garden plants, containers, and earth-friendly décor at great prices. I especially liked some turquoise colored garden pots that were half of what they would cost from other stores, running from $3.99 to $17.50. They also had lovely succulent arrangements that would cost $45 from a store like Roger’s Gardens, but are only $16.50 at Garden Design warehouse.

2. Teakman designs manufactures and sells its own line of teak furniture for your garden and patio. Because there are no middlemen, Teakman is able to offer products of the highest quality at unbeatable prices. It has a 10 percent off coupon on its website at www.teakman.com and great sales every weekend. I liked a deluxe steamer lounge chair with cushions, marked down from $399 to $169.

3. Huntington Garden Center is my favorite place to go for vibrant hanging baskets and unique plants for your garden. They are featuring veggie 6-packs for $3.79 and had unique vegetable choices like Japanese cucumber, fingerling potato, rhubarb and watermelon. I also love that if you bring empty pots and hanging planters to them, they will re-pot them for free – you just pay for the new plants and soil.

4. Cool Designs For Landscapes is a Fountain Valley-based landscape design company that offers a neat garden coaching and consultation service. Katie Cool will come to your house for a one-on-one garden tutoring session to help you learn how to create focal points, garden rooms, and planting combinations, as well as caring for your landscape. Get inspired! They charge $150 for a 2-hour session and you can contact them at www.cooldesignsforlandscapes.com.
