Frugal Family: Deals of the Week

Beat the summer doldrums with entertainment choices for families.

If your children are starting to get a little bored and whiney this month, there are a lot of fun local activities to keep them entertained. We have assembled a list of some of the best amusement deals to break the summer doldrums—without breaking the bank:

  1. has a variety of summer specials, including $12 Tuesdays with unlimited video games for $12, Student Night Thursdays with unlimited rides and attractions for $16.99 with a student ID, and the Early Bird Special, which includes a slice of pizza, a drink and a game of miniature golf for $8.99.
  2. is a great place to go to beat the heat and have some fun. The Kids Meal Deal includes two games, plus shoes, a hot dog and a soda for $10.95. There’s a coupon on its website called “2 for 1 Bowling”: Buy one game and get the second game free.
  3. The new sensation in the area is Sky High in Costa Mesa, a unique play center with floors and ceilings made of giant trampolines. You can literally bounce off the walls during its weekdays special for $7 an hour.
  4. is 9000 square feet of inflatable slides, obstacles and bouncy rooms. It offers a one-month unlimited pass for $29. Also, from 6 to 8 p.m., kids can play at a reduced rate: $8 for 4 years old and up, and $6 for 3 years old and down.
  5. Charter Centre Cinema in Huntington Beach is a great way to see a movie and save. Its everyday admission is $3 and it always has at least one kids movie playing. Wednesday after 6 p.m., you can get two admissions, two popcorns and two sodas for $10!
