Alleged Fountain Valley Bank Robber to Be Arraigned

A Long Beach man suspected of robbing a Fountain Valley bank is scheduled to answer for the crime in court Thursday.

John McLaughlin, faces arraignment Thursday for the May 3 robbery of a Citibank branch at 17400 Brookhurst St. in Fountain Valley.

A witness tip led Fountain Valley police to arrest McLaughlin, a parolee, for allegedly robbing the bank, police reported.

McLaughlin, 35, was booked into the Orange County Jail on suspicion of robbery, possession of methamphetamine and a parole violation, according to Fountain Valley police Sgt. Ted Valle.

Detectives were tipped off after receiving information from a witness at a nearby bank who saw the suspect "acting suspiciously" just before the robbery at the Citibank in Fountain Valley.

According to police, the suspect walked into the bank and handed the bank teller a note demanding money. After the teller handed him cash, the suspect fled the bank and ran through the parking lot.

A portion of the money believed to have been stolen during the robbery was recovered by detectives during McLaughlin 's arrest, Valle reported. Police said McLaughlin had recently been released from prison and was on parole after being convicted of robbery in 2010.
