Summerfest Dedicates a Day to Dogs

Fountain Valley Summerfest Dog Day Afternoon will be held on Sunday, June 30 from noon to 6 p.m. at the Fountain Valley Recreation Center and Sports Park.

Dog lovers are encouraged to bring their pets to this weekend's   Fountain Valley Summerfest Dog Day Afternoon.

The free event will be held on Sunday, June 30 from noon to 6 p.m. in conjunction with the 5th annual Fountain Valley Summerfest at the Fountain Valley Recreation Center and Sports Park, 16400 Brookhurst St. According to event organizers, everyone is invited to attend and bring their dog along on-leash.

"Today more and more people view their dogs not as pets, but as part of the family," Stephen Terry, founder of Desperate Paws of Orange County Dog Club and event organizer, said. "People should bring their dogs to this event, because it's unlike any other pet expo or dog-friendly event in Southern California."

Terry said the dog day afternoon is like being able to take your dog to a county fair.

"Fountain Valley Summerfest Dog Day Afternoon is the 2nd year that Summerfest is letting the dogs out to come and be part of the family in this wonderful celebration," Terry said.

The day will include agility and lure course for all dogs, frisbee disc dog demos, police K-9 demos, small dog off-leash play area, a costume contest, pet products, adoptable pets, concerts, carnival rides, games, a beer/wine / margarita garden, food and more.

Sebastian Saraceno from Animal Planet's Pit Boss and Journey the Wolf-Dog Ambassador will also make a special appearance.
