Fountain Valley: 2 Nice Places to Live?

Is the city as divided along ethnic lines as recent events might suggest?

Census released in March revealed that in the past 10 years, Fountain Valley's Asian population has increased by nearly 8 percent. In fact, one out of every three people in the city is Asian.

But the Asian community isn't alone when it comes to seeing its numbers increase. Hispanics now make up 13 percent of Fountain Valley's population, up more the 2 percent from the 2000 Census.

By all accounts, Fountain Valley's growing minority communities are a vital part of the city as a whole, while still maintaining their own identities. But the recent controversy over seems to suggest a growing divide.

Those against the newly drawn lines, which split Fountain Valley into two districts, say the plan was policitally motivated. Other media coverage of the issue referred to the area of the city now within Supervisor Janet Nguyen's district as "heavily-Vietnamese-American North Fountain Valley."
