Fountain Valley Men Arrested in Prostitution Sting

Two Fountain Valley men are among the 20 arrested and whose names authorities publicized in a crackdown on prostitution and human exploitation.

Two Fountain Valley men were nabbed among the 20 rounded up in an overnight anti-prostitution sting as part of the Orange County District Attorney's Office's crackdown on sex crimes.

Publicizing the names of the men convicted is part of the crackdown, said Susan Kang Schroeder, chief of staff for Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas.

"At the very least the significant others or partners or wives of these men ought to know what their partners have been up to or the diseases they've exposed them to," Schroeder said.

Prosecutors are focusing on prostitution because they've noticed an increase in the amount of exploited youths, Schroeder said.

"Many of the prostitutes are exploited minors or young women in difficult circumstances," Schroeder said, adding the office likes to call pimps "modern day slave owners."

Three women officers went undercover as prostitutes in Santa Ana from 10 p.m. until 3 a.m. today along Harbor Boulevard, a notorious prostitution thoroughfare, Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.

Usually the department catches 10 to 30 suspects in prostitution stings, Bertagna said.

These types of crackdowns can be expensive and difficult to do because of the staffing, but police did it as part of the District Attorney's new Human Exploitation and Trafficking (HEAT) unit's focus on sex crimes, Bertagna said.

The suspects arrested were:

--Herbert Yoneoka, 68, of Fountain Valley;

--Michael Davis, 35, of Fountain Valley;

--David Flores, 32, of Aliso Viejo;

--Ariel Castro, 41, of Santa Ana;

--Paulino Lopez, 47, of Santa Ana;

--Felipe Barrera, 32, of Garden Grove;

--Silvestre Jacob, 40, of Garden Grove;

--Anthony Bello, 18, of Santa Ana;

--Oscar Castaneda, 31, of Santa Ana;

--Omar Moreno, 35, of Santa Ana;

--Noe Hernandez, 34, of Santa Ana;

--Tony Nguyen, 44, of Westminster;

--Luis Ortiz, 27, of Santa Ana;

--Israel Ruiz, 29, of Garden Grove;

--Paulino Martinez, 39, of Santa Ana;

--Christopher Witts, 28, of Upland;

--Jonathan Peralta, 20, of Westminster;

--Heladio Herrera, 20, of Santa Ana;

--David Montano, 31, of Anaheim;

--Rios Francisco, 33, of Santa Ana.

Are you in favor of the district attorney’s policy to publicize men arrested in prostitution stings?

Correction: An earlier version of this story misstated the stage at which the district attorney’s office publicizes the names of the alleged Johns. While police publicized the names of the men arrested, the district attorney’s office publicizes their names after they have been convicted.

Joker The women could get a JOB. Spreading disease is not earning a living. Men, whom are REAL men and not perverts could have sex with wives, girlfriends, you must know .. Safe, committed relationships. Ever meet a nice, clean, sober prostitute? There's your answer. Grab a moral on your way to the back seat. I sincerely hope you are not, and never will, be in a relationship.
Joker Joe May 17, 2013 at 02:10 PM
With the Obama economy where do u get a job? Please name places. REAL men are helping these destitute women out. There is no disease spreading because they use condoms. Obama promotes gay marriages and I hear no uproar but a little sex disturbs you? Would you rather see two men doing the ritual? I have met clean sober prostitutes in my younger day. Have you ever met any? If not what kind did you meet?

Mike May 18, 2013 at 02:03 PM
is anyone familiar with the idea of INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY? How would you like to wake up and see your name on this list? What if its really not you on this list and somebody is using your name or someone has made a typo? Or perhaps you just happened to be in the wrong place and were falsely charged? This is what the courts are for, not the newspaper. Everyone that is cheering on the posting of the names ought to think about how their life will change forever if they are false accused....
Don May 18, 2013 at 02:21 PM
Three observations...... 1.Looks the majority is a Who's Who of illegals. 2. This is a waste of taxpayer funds. 3. It is not the job of the DA to inform citizens "what their partners have been up to or the diseases they've exposed them to,". The lady sounds like the social police.
Ben Johnson May 18, 2013 at 02:46 PM
And they place their names for all to see. I drive for escort agencies and find this to be the utmost disgusting way to humiliate someone who did nothing wrong to the public. Let's place all the names of cops who were arrested so far this year.
sieben13 May 18, 2013 at 03:41 PM
By legalizing it ,you control it and disease
The Beast ! May 18, 2013 at 04:21 PM

The Beast ! May 18, 2013 at 04:25 PM
Allison the Police were focusing on the "Johns" no the prostitutes last night.
Joe DelFino May 18, 2013 at 04:46 PM
The state has nothing better to do right, the people that run this should get fired. they are never going to stop prostituting or drugs. all they are doing is waisting tax payers money not only that they are hurting the people family causing problem at home for the people they locked up. also it is alright for the cops and polaticians to go get a blow jobs or even full sevice from the prostitues. Like the cops and the polaticians don't do drugs either . The goverment should ease off alitttle bit on the people this is life and its not going to stop.( EVER ) SO FOR THE ALL THE GOVERMENT AND POLATICIANS AND THE COPS, F OFF AND PISS OFF YOU ARE ALL FOOLS AND JACK ASSES.
Barry A Clarke` May 18, 2013 at 05:24 PM
Hmmm, I wonder if this office would be as thrilled to post the names of corrupt government officials as they are the names of people who were participating in the oldest known profession to mankind? It's like who is willing to throw the first stone…………….
Greg Mitchell May 18, 2013 at 06:26 PM
So sick of hearing about cops arresting guys for soliciting prostitutes. Who is it hurting? Such a waste of taxpayers money. It's also entrapment. It's the cops that are soliciting. Such bullshit. And posting the names are ridiculous.
arthur lee davis May 18, 2013 at 07:38 PM
MAY 18, SATURDAY, 2013 - It is far cheaper to travel to Nevada's Counties and pay at those state sanctioned brothels, for ladies of your choice than to risk, what has happened to these twenty (20) men, and the fallout from their families, also there is the judge to face, perhaps two judges . ( the other in a divorce court, should any wives decide it is time to severe those ties of marriage, as a result of their husbands being caught.This could get very ugly,and expensive.
Paulo Aguilar May 18, 2013 at 08:17 PM
isn't Ariel Castro the same guy who held 3 teenage girls hostage to 10 years? what is it about that guys with that name??
Greg Mitchell May 18, 2013 at 08:24 PM
Why is everyone assuming these guys are married?
Greg Mitchell May 18, 2013 at 08:33 PM
So sick of seeing cops arresting guys for soliciting prostitutes. Don't they have better things to do? It's not hurting anyone. It's actually entrapment. It's the female cops soliciting and then the guys get arrested. So stupid. Should be legal anyway. Posting names is nothing but harrassment.
A.B. May 18, 2013 at 09:28 PM
And every one of them a scumbag
Rick May 18, 2013 at 11:22 PM
Yeah, white guys don't venture to Santa Ana; it's like the Wild West there (or at least the smart white guys don't go there). For those of you who think the prostitution thing is all fun and games, you clearly don't know the dynamics of North Orange County here. The Vietnamese & Mexican gangs have the lockdown on the prostitution rings in N. Orange County here. In case most of you haven't figured it out yet, most of these woman are working for pimps (YES, Mexican & Vietnamese PIMPS). Many are trafficked from Mexico and Asia, so it's not just some innocent game here. If any one of you idiots who think this is just about the ladies earning money, you're a bigger IDIOT than the Johns are. These woman (some underage) are trafficked by gangs to the U.S. and put to work as prostitutes. The pimps and organized gangs make thousands of $$ each night & the girls are sleeping in hidden cubicles in some run down house. SO YEAH, it's about time the OC Police Dept got off their fat butts and did something to try and protect the ladies, most of whom are forced into prostitution. The Johns need to have their names posted, go to court & pay a huge fine.
james hoffmann May 18, 2013 at 11:27 PM
i just dont get it as to why any man would seek out a prostitute if there is no relationship and certainly no love is it not just assisted masturbation?,with many risks and momentary gratification, doesn't make sense to me
Darren Bruin May 19, 2013 at 01:18 AM
With the prevalent use of condom disease is a myth. It is also a myth that a typical prostitute is a drug addict and/or destitute woman. In fact most prostitutes are just normal healthy people trying to make a living to feed their family in hard economic time. The cops should not waste taxpayer's money on victimless "crime" like this. Surely there are real crimes with real victims that need police resources more than this.
Greg Mitchell May 19, 2013 at 03:59 AM
Rick, why go after the johns? The pimps are the ones that need to be dealt with. There's always going to be johns. Arresting them is not going to solve the problem. I agree that it is a serious problem there that needs to be dealt with but arresting the johns are not going to help the problem. James, getting a prostitute is a little differant from masturbating. Otherwise no one would get a prostitute. Sometimes they make sense.
Robert Allen May 19, 2013 at 07:08 AM
The law really handles things poorly and the public are idiots because they are reactionary. With all the shootings going on and then after the Newtown incident where the mother obtained the gun legally and the son got a hold of it and killed her along with many other innocents. People started demanding background checks. A background check would not have stopped that incident. A failure in the thought process by people and the law. Now my point about sex traffic. If a man and a woman meet up somewhere and end up having sex for money what makes it illegal is the passing of money. This in itself is pretty harmless but considered illegal and immoral. When people are kidnapping women against there will forcing them to work as a Prostitute by soliciting Johns in obtaining money. The victims here are the Prostitute and the John's. The ones who should be arrested and have their names listed are the gang members who are kidnapping, enslaving young woman and using them to attract men for their money in exchange for sex and then using money to support other illegal enterprises. We never get to the root of the problems because that would cost more money and is harder to do but it solves the problems.
Joker Joe May 20, 2013 at 10:35 AM
Robert Going after gang members is harder for the police to do. Getting the johns is much easier. What next? Massage parlors???
Joker Joe May 20, 2013 at 10:43 AM
james hoffmann I see where you posted, it doesn't make sense to you why a guy would go to a prostitute. Maybe I can help! Send me your address......
Joker Joe May 23, 2013 at 10:09 AM
Greg Mitchell It is assumed all these guys are married because they went to these girls!!!! Many public officials if not all go to them. Look at poor Bill. He is married but Hillary would not help him out with his problem so he had the deed done. The only difference was it was legal because he got a freebe. The attorney general of N.Y., Elliot Spitzer) was married and he went to an escort and got serviced. That was a no no because he paid for it. The public has been brought up to think that freebes are good but paying the working girl is bad!!! No one takes into account she has to make a living. In Nevada, where I have been, it is as simple as buying food. The madame brings out 6 or so women. U take your pick and pay her. 15 minutes later you leave and no harm no foul!
Joker Joe May 24, 2013 at 10:30 AM
Word has it that 85% of the guys went to these prostitutes BECAUSE they were married!!!!! lol lol just sayin'
Joker Joe May 24, 2013 at 12:29 PM
Why do men go to prostitutes???? answer: Because their wives QUIT doing what they did in order to get him to marry her...
