Huntington Beach Businessman Punished for 'Cheating' U.S. Air Force

Keith Randell Faber, 59, a defense subcontractor, knowingly sold substandard ball bearings to General Atomics, while promising ones of a higher quality.

A Huntington Beach man was punished in an Orange County courthouse this week after admitting to "cheating" the United States Air Force by providing substandard products.

According to OC Weekly, Keith Randell Faber, 59, a local defense subcontractor and owner of A&M Bearings LLC and Mesa Bearing Company, successfully won a bid in 1997 to provide a high quality ball bearing to General Atomics, a military contractor in Poway, Calif.

However, it was discovered that for the last three years of the contract, which ran out in 2008, Faber offered only substandard ball bearings, thus defrauding the Air Force out of more than $60,000.

Faber blamed his decision on "family troubles," according to OC Weekly

U.S. District Court Judge Andrew J. Guilford accepted Faber's defense team's recommendation for three years of supervised probation and full restitution. He will not have to serve any time in prison.
