Dry-Ice Bomb Forces Evacuation of Disney's Toontown

A small explosion occurred in a trash can at Disneyland today, but no one was injured.

The Mickey's Toontown section of the theme park was cleared out about 5:15 p.m., but the rest of Disneyland remained open, a Disneyland official said. Authorities lifted the evacuation of Toontown just before 8 p.m., the official said.

The Orange County sheriff's bomb squad was investigating the explosion, which was apparently set off by a water bottle with dry ice, the Disneyland official said.

Dry-ice and other chemical-reaction bombs are typically made by combining reactive ingredients in a plastic bottle. The mixture creates such intense pressure that the bottle explodes.

Sheriff's officials referred calls to Anaheim police, who did not immediately respond to several messages seeking comment.
