Miss Fountain Valley Passionate about Helping the Mentally Disabled

Miss Fountain Valley 2013 Aimee Le, a graduating senior at UC Irvine studying neurobiology, is interested in studying the brain because of her mentally disabled brother.

When Aimee Le started participating in pageants, she wasn't in it for the tiara. She wanted the community exposure and the financial opportunities to further her education and quest to make a difference for the mentally disabled, according to a story in the New University Newspaper.

Le, who was crowned Miss Fountain Valley 2013 in March, is a graduating senior at UC Irvine studying neurobiology. Her desire to learn exactly how the brain works was sparked by the strong connection she has with her mentally disabled brother, whom she defended against bullies on the school playground. She channeled her passion into her platform, through which she urges the community to form relationships with the mentally disabled, the New University Newspaper reported.

“Disabled kids can teach you something about life and how we take for granted the simple things,” Aimee told the newspaper. "Our world will be better off if we just didn’t isolate people who are different.”

After being crowned Miss Fountain Valley, Le received a 5,000 academic scholarship which she plans to help pay for medical school.
