Pope Benedict to Step Down

In a rare move, the pontiff will resign this month because of failing health, the Vatican announced Sunday.

In a highly unusual move, the Catholic Church’s Pope Benedict XVI plans to step down for health reasons, according to the Vatican.

As reported by Bloomberg News, the 85-year-old leader of the Roman Catholic Church will resign Feb. 28.

The 265th pope, a German-born theologian, held the church’s highest position since 2005. His replacement will be selected by a conclave of cardinals.
