Wet Weather Possible Most of the Week

The forecast calls for possible showers next week, a late-winter weather system that may make for some snarled commutes but will pale in comparison with a storm that ravaged Orange County 75 years ago.

In 1938, it started raining on Feb. 27 and by the time it stopped on March 4, more than 200 people were dead in Southern California, including 45 in Orange County, according to the National Weather Service.

The tropical storm dumped more than 22 inches of rain in the Santa Ana River headwaters, with melted snow adding to the deluge that would inundate most of northern Orange County.

March 2013 has come in more like a lamb than a lion, with record high temperatures reported around the county.

The National Weather Service forecast for Orange County:

Saturday night: A slight chance of sprinkles after 10 p.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 50. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Sunday: A 20 percent chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 67. Light south wind becoming southwest 5 to 10 mph in the morning.

Sunday night: A 20 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 49. Southeast wind around 5 mph.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 67. Light and variable wind becoming southwest 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.

Monday night: Increasing clouds, with a low around 49. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Tuesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 67.

Tuesday night: A 20 percent chance of rain. Increasing clouds, with a low around 50.

Wednesday: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 61.

Wednesday night: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 47.

Thursday: A chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 60.

Thursday night: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 45.
