Motivational Speaker Helps His Chronically Ill Wife Through Her Journey

Patch readers told us who the "Everyday Inspirations" in their communities are, and we're sharing their stories and the work they've done locally.

Everyday Inspirations is a series that features people in Patch communities who inspire others through their work, or people who have faced extraordinary situations and grown from them. They have been featured by other people in the community that have been inspired by the nominees.

Name: Rommel Anacan
Town: Fountain Valley, CA
Nominated by: Kacy Anacan

Why is this person an "Everyday Inspiration?"
Rommel is my husband. Marrying him was the single best decision of my life. We had a whirlwind romance and were married six months after we started dating. Not long after we got married, my health took a major decline.

It has been nine years of hardships, loss, grief and a journey down an unexpected road for us both. He has not wavered in his loyalty, unconditional love and servant hearted nature. Not only has he been the biggest blessing of my life, he effects countless others by understated good deeds.

He is not one to showcase how wonderful he is, that's just not him. He is the first to show up for a friend in need, offer a helping hand and will go the extra mile for someone in a pinch.

Has the nominee's life been changed in an extraordinary way?

To be married to someone who is chronically ill is a life changer! It has changed his whole life. No one thinks that there life will be riddled with loss, poor health, financial stress, etc. He has grown through these trying times which have made him so understanding, patient, loving and generous of himself.

As much as this is the hardest thing we have had to go through, he is bringing a message of hope, worthiness and purpose to what he does now.

How does this person work to make others' lives better?

After my health took a downward spiral I had to quit my job, which in turn made us lose our home. Since I was not able to care for our 3-year-old (at the time) daughter or myself, Rommel quit his job to take care of us and to also try and start a business that he could do from home that would give him the flexibility to make money but take care of our needs as well.

His mission in life is to remind people that they are worthy (not because of what they do but by simply being), they have a purpose and they play a vital role in our world. Rommel created his own training and motivational speaking business and goes all over the country teaching people in so many different capacities, but the core message is the same...YOU matter.

Many times he speaks to groups for free because he believes so whole heartedly that people need to hear this message more then ever. As a matter of fact just last night he spoke to a group about "How You Can Help Someone With a Chronic Illness." This obviously is very near and dear to my heart and I just overflowed with pride seeing how such a horrible thing in our lives can bring hope to others.

Whether it is spreading a deep, true and positive message around the country, or whether its taking care of a chronically ill wife, or in the middle of the night helping a friend change a tire on the freeway Rommel is always there. My love and adoration for him could not be any greater! Thanks for listening to me gush! :)
