28-Year-Old Man Identified in Deadly Huntington Beach Explosion

Authorities Tuesday released the name of a contract worker who died in a fire in an underground electrical vault in Huntington Beach.

Brandon H. Orozco, 28, of Whittier, was killed Monday afternoon at 16282 Tisbury Circle, according to Lt. Jeff Hallock of the Orange County Sheriff- Coroner's Office.

When firefighters got on the scene at 12:17 p.m., they saw heavy smoke billowing from the vault and were told a worker was trapped underground, Huntington Beach Capt. Bob Culhane said.

A five-person crew from CAM Construction Inc. had been contracted to work in the vault, which contains Southern California Edison equipment, Culhane said. The fire started during a planned five-hour power outage, he said.

Cal/OSHA is investigating the death.
