The annual Orange County Teacher of the Year Dinner at Disneyland Hotel was held on Friday, October 25, 2013. Fountain Valley School District Teacher of the Year Julie Mastropaolo was among those honored, receiving a cash award and several gifts.

Fountain Valley School District Superintendent Marc Ecker remarked, “This is one of the best things we do in education. Honoring our outstanding teachers who impact the lives of our students through their skill and dedication warms our hearts and encourages us to continue our efforts to advocate for those we serve, our children.”

Julie Mastropaolo is a 5th grade teacher at Robert Gisler Elementary School.  Erin Bains, principal at Gisler Elementary, emphasized “It is an honor and privilege to work with Julie Mastropaolo each day. She wants the best for each of her students and conveys these high expectations on a daily basis. Within seconds of walking into her classroom you can sense the energy and engagement of each of her students. She represents all of the hard work, dedication, and reflective thoughts of our FVSD teachers.”

Julie Mastropaolo also serves as the Fountain Valley School District's Coordinating Teacher for the ScienceWorks program. In a commitment to meet the crucial need to improve Science education for all students, the Fountain Valley School District has teamed with Huntington Beach City School District and the Westminster School District to form the ScienceWorks Consortium.  District Superintendent Marc Ecker commented, “This successful and innovative partnership has sustained our science reform efforts. We are very proud of the progress that has been made in science instruction.”

"We are very proud of Julie and deeply appreciate her dedicated service to the children of our school district," concluded Assistant Superintendent Anne Silavs.
