The Fountain Valley Police Department will host a National Prescription Drug Take Back Days from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26.
The event will be held at 10200 Slater Ave. This is one of several collection points, organizers said.
In an effort to address this issue, DEA, in conjunction with state and local law enforcement agencies throughout the United States conduct the drug take back days throughout the country.
“Drug abuse continues to be a problem that impacts young and old alike,” according to information released by local law enforcement officials. “Studies show that the majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including the home medicine cabinet. A majority of teens say they get drugs from their family's medicine cabinets or from the bathrooms of friends.”
The goal of this program is to allow citizens to turn in all of their unused, unwanted or expired medications so that law enforcement officials can dispose of them in a secure and non-hazardous manner, potentially saving lives and protecting the ecosystem, Fountain Valley officials said.
