Police Say Granny Kidnapped Girl, Hit Great-Grandma with Car in Getaway

Georgiana Garcia was arrested Friday by Fountain Valley police.

A woman was arrested Friday for allegedly abducting her granddaughter Thursday in Fountain Valley.

Georgiana Garcia, 44, of Tustin was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence and child abduction.

According to police, Garcia abducted the 3-year-old from the victim's great grandmother's house on the 17300 block of San Luis Street as the result of a custody dispute. As Garcia drove away, she hit the girl's great-grandmother with her car, causing minor injuries. The second victim was treated at a local hospital and released.

Garcia then drove to Redondo beach and left the child with a relative, police said. The relative notified Fountain Valley police, who traveled to Redondo Beach and brought the child back to Fountain Valley. The investigation later revealed that the child's great-grandmother had a valid custody order.

Garcia is in custody at the Orange County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
