The girl nearly died twice at a hospital, but was finally well enough to be released Monday, Bertagna said.

"We had no witnesses, so we went to the media and after one of the stories aired, the next day we were contacted by an attorney representing this individual who might have hit the 13-year-old, and this afternoon he turned himself in," Bertagna said.
