At the time of the slaying, in February 2011, Nguyen was living with his parents in their Fountain Valley trailer, authorities said.

After his girlfriend Uyennie Ton discovered Nguyen was having sex with another woman, he agreed to end the affair and proposed to Ton, according to prosecutors.

But a few days later, on Feb. 25, Nguyen allegedly called the other woman to come to his home that night for sex. The woman declined.

After hanging up, Nguyen is accused of getting into an argument with Ton in his bedroom. He then allegedly shot her in the head, killing her.

Nguyen’s sleeping mother awoke to the sound of the gunshot and called 911 to report that Ton had committed suicide, authorities said.

Based on the victim’s injuries, police eventually decided suicide was not a possibility, according to officials.

Nguyen was arrested Oct. 6.
