Fountain Valley Volunteer Patrol Goes Green

Thanks to a new hybrid patrol car, the city will save more than $9,000 in fuel costs.

The members of the Fountain Valley Police Deparment's Retrired Senior Volunter Program volunteer their time in lots of ways to help the people of Fountain Valley. Now, the city is helping them do their part to help the environement as well.

The Fountain Valley Department of Public Works recently purchased a 2011 Ford Escape Hybrid to replace one of the existing vehicles used by these volunteers. Last year, department volunteers logged more than 8,000 hours assisting the police department, and many of those hours were spent on patrol.

The hybird is cleaner and more fuel efficient, saving more than $9,000 in gas over the life of the vehicle, and 25 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
