Fountain Valley Woman Gets Six Years for Having Sex with 12-Year-Old

The victim's mom had caught Patricia Ann Serrano in a locked room with her son, hiding behind a door.

A 45-year-old woman was sentenced today to six years in prison for having sex with a 12-year-old friend of her son in Fountain Valley.

Patricia Ann Serrano pleaded guilty Jan. 6 to three counts of lewd acts on a child younger than 14 and admitted a sentencing enhancement for substantial sexual conduct with a child, Deputy District Attorney Keith Burke said.

Serrano also pleaded guilty, in a deal with prosecutors, to a felony count of forgery and a misdemeanor count of attempted petty theft.

While her case was pending, Serrano "drafted a letter purporting to be from our office and it had a District Attorney seal on it," to fake an excuse for missing work, Burke said.

She gave the letter to her boss so she could avoid being docked a day's pay, Burke said.

The defendant's boss was suspicious of the letter and called authorities, Burke said. Serrano misspelled the name of the first prosecutor on the case, Burke added.

The victim's mother called police in the fall of 2011 when she found Serrano in a locked room with her son, Burke said. The defendant was hiding behind a door in the room, the prosecutor added.

In October 2011, the two had sex in her home and in a car, and Serrano sent sexually charged text messages to the boy, Burke said.

Serrano could have faced up to 12 years in prison for the sexual assaults if convicted at trial, Burke said.
