A 77-year-old man was killed when his Nissan Altima collided with a Toyota 4Runner at a Huntington Beach intersection, police said today.
The collision occurred at 8:45 p.m. Saturday at Newland Street and Talbert Avenue, said Huntington Beach police Sgt. David Dereszynski.
A 77-year-old Huntington Beach man, the driver of the Nissan Altima, sustained major injuries and died at the scene. The driver of the Toyota 4Runner, a 51-year-old woman from Fountain Valley, was transported and admitted to UCI Medical Center with moderate injuries, Dereszynski said.
Orange County coroner's officials identified the dead man as George Malouff, Jr.
"Arriving officers located a silver 1999 Toyota 4Runner and a silver 2005 Nissan Altima near the intersection. Both vehicles had sustained significant damage. Each vehicle had only one occupant," Dereszynski said.
"Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears the Nissan Altima was traveling westbound on Talbert and collided with the Toyota 4Runner which was traveling northbound on Newland."
The investigation continued, he said. --City News Service
