Motorcyclist who Died in Fountain Valley Crash ID'd

Witnesses say Hovig Akmakjian ran a red light in Friday and ran into an SUV.

The Coroner's Office today publicly named a 22-year-old motorcyclist who was killed when his bike crashed with a sports utility vehicle in Fountain Valley.

The crash was at Slater Avenue and Magnolia Street at about 6 p.m. Friday, according to the Coroner's Office. It killed Hovig Akmakjian of Santa Ana.

Multiple witnesses said the motorcyclist ran a red light and collided with the sport utility vehicle, said Fountain Valley police Sgt. Steve DeSantis.

Akmakjian had been westbound on Slater, approaching Magnolia, and the SUV made a left turn from eastbound Slater onto Magnolia. The motorcyclist was ejected onto the street.

Paramedics rushed Akmakjian to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was pronounced dead at 6:28 p.m. Friday, according to the Coroner's Office.
