OC Deputies Offer Reward to Capture Marathon Bomber

The union representing Orange County deputy sheriffs pledged $1,000 today to a fund benefiting Boston emergency workers and another $1,000 for information that leads to whoever committed the Boston Marathon terrorist bombings that killed three people and injured scores of others.

The Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs made the $1,000 donation to Boston's First Responder's Fund, which benefits emergency workers in the city, and added to the already established $50,000 reward fund.

"As we mourn the victims of this senseless act of violence, we are once again reminded that our way of life remains constantly in the crosshairs of those who wish us harm," said Tom Dominguez, president of the association. "We must recommit ourselves to the fight against terrorism and never let our guard down."

According Fenway-Kenmore.Patch.com, The FBI has recovered several pieces of forensic evidence from the attack, but no suspects have been identified.

"FBI Special Agent Rick DesLauriers said the forensic evidence found at the scene of the blasts on Boylston Street included potential pieces of a pressure cooker device with BB gun bullets, nails and possibly gunpowder, stuffed into a black nylon backpack," reported Fenway-Kenmore.Patch.com.

The Orange County sheriff's union also contacted the offices of Reps. Ed Royce, R-Fullerton, and Loretta Sanchez, D-Santa Ana, in the wake of the bombings to urge their support for homeland security funding.

Sanchez, who is a senior member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, issued her own statement today on the Boston bombings.

"My thoughts and deepest prayers go out to all of those affected by the horrific tragedy in Boston," she said. "Boston's police force, emergency personnel and citizens who showed enormous bravery saved lives and prevented further loss, and for their heroic efforts we are grateful.

"It is an act of extreme cowardice to attack a civilian event that unites people of all background," the congresswoman said. "But as always in our great country, when we are faced with unthinkable tragedies, we come together united. Our spirit cannot and will not be broken."   Sanchez said that as "a senior member of the Homeland Security Committee, I am committed to doing everything within my power to ensure that our intelligence and law enforcement community have the necessary tools to quickly find the responsible perpetrators who committed this act of terrorism."
