One man was killed and another was booked on suspicion of drunken driving following a two-vehicle collision early Tuesday in Westminster.
The crash occurred about 1:10 a.m. at Brookhurst Street and McFadden Avenue, according to Westminster police Sgt. Richard Mize, who said a Nissan Frontier truck driven by Emmanuel Garibay broadsided a Honda Civic.
Joey Nungaray, 27, of Fountain Valley, had to be cut out of the wreckage of the Honda. He was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange, where he was pronounced dead at 1:47 a.m., according to the coroner's office.
Garibay, who sustained minor injuries, was treated at the same hospital, then booked at the Orange County Jail on suspicion of drunken driving, with bail was set at $100,000, Mize said.
Garibay was southbound on Brookhurst when his pickup slammed into the westbound Civic on McFadden, Mize said.
"Investigators are still working to determine which vehicle failed to stop for the red traffic signal," the sergeant said. "Investigators also believe that alcohol did appear to be a factor in the collision."
Anyone with information about the collision was asked to call police at (714) 898-3315.
