Pedestrian Struck, Fighting for Life in Suspected DUI Crash

The accident occurred Tuesday on Springdale Street near Glenwood Drive and the victim was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange in critical condition. On Wednesday a Huntington Beach man turned himself in to police.

A 65-year-old driver was booked on suspicion of drunken driving and hit-and-run in an accident in Huntington Beach that left a pedestrian fighting for his life, police said Wednesday.

Johann Balogh of Huntington Beach returned to the scene of the roughly 6:30 p.m. collision Tuesday and told police he was behind the wheel when his southbound car slammed into a 57-year-old pedestrian, Huntington Beach police Lt. Mitch O'Brien said.

The accident occurred on Springdale Street at or near Glenwood Drive, and the victim, whose name police withheld, was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange in critical condition, O'Brien said.

The car was headed south on Springdale when the man was struck, O'Brien said.
