Police Chase Leads To Crash, No Arrests

During the chase, the driver crashed a Toyota Tundra and then fled on foot to escape arrest.

California Highway Patrol officers pursued a pickup truck , after the driver committed a vehicle code violation early this morning, but the driver crashed the truck in Santa Ana and ran away, a CHP officer said.

The short pursuit began at 12:09 a.m., as the 2008 Toyota Tundra exited the westbound Garden Grove (22) Freeway at Bristol Street, said CHP Officer M. Cavanaugh.

"An enforcement stop was initiated and the driver of the Toyota failed to yield to the CHP vehicle's emergency lights and siren and a short pursuit ensued southbound on Bristol Street in the city of Santa Ana," Cavanaugh said.

"As the pursuit approached Bristol Street and Santa Clara Avenue the Toyota attempted to pass a vehicle in the No. 2 lane on the right," Cavanaugh said. It struck a tree on the west side of Bristol Street, then crashed into a traffic signal pole and parked vehicle in a driveway on the southwest corner of Bristol Street and Santa Clara Avenue.

"After the pursuit terminated the driver fled the scene on foot and could not be located," Cavanaugh said.--City News Service
