Police Department Rolls out Revamped Website

The new site allows instant access to crime news, municipal codes, and the department directory.

Before he was the Fountain Valley Police Department's new chief of police, Dan Llorens took it upon himself to create and update the department's Facebook page. Now that he's in charge, Llorens is continuing the department's tech-savvy efforts with an updated department website.

The site still features many of the same services as the old department site, only in a new and more user-friendly package. Site visitors can see the latest crime news, quick links to city laws and newsletter signups, and a link to the department directory right from the homepage. There's also a calendar of department events, and a direct link to Chief Llorens' email address.

"We realize websites need to be refreshed every once in a while and figured our leadership transition would be as good a time as any," Llorens said. "Our website is one of many ways we have of communicating with the public, and as such need it to be timely as well as visually attractive. Despite this need, we are putting my picture on there anyhow."

Llorens is also dedicated to keeping up the department's social media presence with more up-to-the minute informatio through its Facebook page, something he recognizes as a valuable tool that need to be used properly.

"Facebook is yet another way the department can reach out directly to people with timely information," Llorens said. "The challenge posed by emerging technologies that allow such instant communication is that the police can’t just be fast with info; we have to have the correct info. We will continue to look at ways to improve our contact with residents."
