Public's Help Sought in Finding Missing O.C. Woman

Twenty-four-year-old Erika Lopez of Newport Beach hasn't been seen in a week. Her family in Boston is desperate for word.

Erika Lopez lived in Newport Beach for a little more than two years before she went missing last week. Her family—which is in Boston—is relying on the community to be its eyes and ears.

Lopez, 24, was last seen about 11 a.m. on Aug. 22 in the area of Sherrington Place and Irvine Avenue and was reported missing about 10 p.m. Wednesday by one of her friends, according to Kathy Lowe of the Newport Beach Police Department.

"There are no new updates as of this morning," Lowe said today.

Stefanie Facada, Lopez's cousin, says her mother, brother and aunts will be flying from Boston to Newport Beach in a few days to search for her. In the meantime they are relying on the community to help find Lopez.

"We don't think foul play is involved—well, at least we are hoping it's not that," Facada said. "She has never run away or disappeared ever before. Hopefully, someone will spot her."

Facada says Lopez moved to Newport Beach about 2½ years ago to be with her boyfriend, whom she has since broken up with. She lived alone in an apartment.

Lopez is Hispanic, 5 feet tall and weighs about 115 pounds. She has shoulder-length brown hair, brown eyes, a thin build and was last seen wearing a pink sweatshirt and white sweatpants.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Newport Beach Police Detective Scott Smith at 949-644-3762.
