Residential Burglaries Up more than 50% for July

Vehicle burglaries dropped significantly, while coyote sightings held steady.

Residential burglaries were up more than 50 percent in Fountain Valley for the month of July, according the the Crime Watch statistics.

There were 17 residential burglaries reported during July, up from the 11 that were reported during June. Vehicle burglaries, usually the most frequently reported crimes in Fountain Valley, were down by 50 percent in July, with 10 reported. Four of the reported incidents occurred in the same reporting district in which the police department is located. Five cars were reported stolen, up from four in June, with no arrests made. Two commercial burglaries were reported.

Coyote sightings remained high in July with 10, with 11 coyote-related calls made in all. Two of the sightings involved multiple coyotes, and two involved coyotes preying on domestic pets.
