UPDATED: 5:15 p.m. A Santa Ana teen was found dead in Fountain Valley from an apparent gunshot wound to the neck Monday afternoon, according to the city Police Department.
At about 1:21 p.m. the FVPD received a call of a fight in progress at the 7-Eleven store parking lot at 16475 Harbor Boulevard, according to a spokesman for the Fountain Valley Police Department.
Officers arrived within a few minutes and observed a 17-year-old down at the parking lot with an apparent gunshot wound to his neck.
Fountain Valley Fire Department responded to the scene to treat the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim is a 17-year-old male Hispanic from Santa Ana. Authorities said they have not released the victim’s name pending further investigation and notification of the family.
Officers identified a suspect at the scene who they detained for further investigation. They also recovered a firearm.
Sgt. Kurt Ulrich of the FVPD said he believes there were some witnesses, but wasn’t sure how many. The Fountain Valley Police Department is investigating the homicide, but as of yet no charges have been filed.
“The suspect is at the station and he’s being dealt with by the investigators,” Sgt. Ulrich said. “I don’t know the suspect’s age, but it is possible that the suspect is a juvenile, so we wouldn’t release his name either.”
Authorities ask that anyone who witnessed or has information about the incident, contact the Fountain Valley Police Department Investigation Bureau at (714) 593-4484 or Detective Dave Steele at (714) 593-4465.
