Simi Valley Man Enters Plea for Beach Riot Incident

The 19-year-old man was involved in the riots following the U.S. Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, authorities said.

A 19-year-old Simi Valley man involved in the riots following the U.S. Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach this summer pleaded guilty Thursday to misdemeanors and was immediately sentenced to 80 hours of community service.

Chase Scott Christman pleaded guilty to vandalism, inciting a riot and refusal to disperse, all misdemeanors. He was placed on three years of informal probation.

Christman could have faced up to three years in prison if he were convicted at trial.

Christman and several others were arrested following the July 28 riot.

Fullerton firefighter Michael John Lytle, 30, of Anaheim, is scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 19 on a misdemeanor charge of resisting police.

Lytle was placed on administrative leave from his job as a firefighter. He joined the city's fire department Feb. 11, 2008, and was off-duty at the time of the rioting.
