Skateboarder, 16, Hospitalized in Critical Condition After Fountain Valley Crash

Fountain Valley police say the teen was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange for traumatic life threatening injuries.

A 16-year-old skateboarder was hospitalized Wednesday following a crash that left him fighting for his life.

According to Fountain Valley Police Sgt. Steve DeSantis, the unidentified teen was hit by a Lexus sedan as it crossed through the intersection of Slater Avenue and Ward Street around 8 p.m. Tuesday.

"The Lexus collided head on with skateboarder," he said in a police statement, adding that the vehicle was headed east on Slater, while the teen was going north on Ward.   "The driver of the Lexus stopped and the passengers rendered assistance to the victim."

The boy was rushed to UCI Medical Center in Orange for "traumatic life threatening injuries," he said.

According to DeSantis, witnesses tell police the skateboarder had entered te intersection against a red light, but the investigation is continuing.  It's not believed drugs or alcohol played any sort of role at this time, he said.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact the Fountain Valley Police Department at 714-593-4484 to provide additional information.
