Super Bowl DUI Patrols Net 43 Arrests

That works out to about one arrest per agency involved in Orange County's stepped-up enforcement effort.

A 38-agency crackdown on drunk driving on Super Bowl Sunday produced 43 arrests in Orange County, officials said Tuesday.

"Officers representing 38 Orange County law enforcement agencies arrested 43 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs," according to a statement.

No DUI-related deaths were reported in Orange County that day, officials said.

Next up: St. Patrick's Day. Officials said they would step up anti-DUI operations throughout the county and region during St. Paddy festivities in March.

Grant funding for the patrols are provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Yo, The Beast - have you talked to most law-abiding citizens who've done nothing wrong and obeyed all traffic laws about being forced to pull to the side of the road and submit to police action? Of course you haven't. So you have no idea of what you speak. Things like that aren't supposed to be allowed in free nations - no more than the police conducting random warrantless searches of homes. Got it, pard? You seem to have a real bad attitude, btw.

I've driven through several sobriety checkpoints. You roll up to the stop, open your windows, the officer (every time polite) asks a few questions, you answer, and you drive on. I don't mind at all, especially if 43 arrests were made.

Good, Ed. Then we cancel each other out. If I want to get stopped by the cops for doing nothing wrong I'll move to North Korea. In the meantime I'll complain about it happening here. And most people I've spoken with think it's an abuse of power and a violation of our civil liberties.

Couldn't Agree More! The only people who have a problem with it are people that drink and drive and hope not to get caught! I live on the Peninsula and go out drinking frequently, but I either walk to the bars or cab it with friends! I wish the NB police would set up roadblocks more frequently on the peninsula because I hate walking around near my own home because of all the drunk idiots out driving around!

"Couldn't Agree More! The only people who have a problem with it are people that drink and drive and hope not to get caught!" That's a false statement, Larry. I haven't had a drink in years. Never any illegal drugs except for experimental weed (very little) in high school. You see, some of us cherish our civil liberties and the our Constitutional rights. We don't want to live in the likes of North Korea. But I know that's hard for you to understand.
