An 18-year-old man was convicted Monday of voluntary manslaughter in the stabbing death of a 19-year-old man in a Huntington Beach park several days before Christmas in 2011.

Jesse Taylor Shockey, who was 16 years old when he was charged as an adult with first-degree murder, was convicted of the lesser charge following about two days of deliberations.  Jurors also found true a sentencing enhancement for use of a deadly weapon.

About two weeks before the slaying, Shockey got into an argument in Lake View Park in Huntington Beach with the friends of the victim, Dylan James Austin, who was not at the park at that time, according to the Orange County District Attorney's Office.

About 9:40 p.m. on Dec. 21, 2011, Shockey returned to the park backed up by friends. When he saw Austin approaching with his friends, Shockey instigated a fight with the victim and plunged a knife into his chest, according to prosecutors.
