An apparently homeless woman was fighting for her life Tuesday after being struck by a car as she pushed a shopping cart across Fourth Street in Santa Ana.
The victim, whose name and age were not immediately available, was struck around 5:15 a.m. on Fourth Street at Lacy Street, according to Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna. The driver who struck the woman was on his way to church, Bertagna said.
The woman was listed in critical condition at Western Medical Center, according to Bertagna.
Meanwhile, another woman who was struck by a car Friday while pushing a shopping cart across a Santa Ana street was pronounced dead Tuesday morning, Bertagna said.
Petra Perez Jimenez, 68, of Santa Ana, was pushing a shopping cart through the intersection of Grant Street and Standard Avenue when she was struck by a Toyota Camry, Bertagna said.
The driver, whose name was not immediately released, did not have a license and was cited for failure to yield, Bertagna said. Since the victim died, the evidence will be presented to the Orange County District Attorney's Office for consideration of other charges, Bertagna said.
On Monday, a 6-year-old boy was killed and his grandmother was seriously injured when they were struck by a pickup truck as the woman walked the child and his 7-year-old sister to school in Santa Ana.
