Council Approves Budget for 2011-12

Budgets includes $35.8 million in the city's general fund and $19.2 million in capital expenditures.

After little more than a few procedural questions and editing tips from the public, the Fountain Valley City Council unanimously adopted the city's operating budget for the 2011-12 fiscal year.

Overall, the city's general fund was projected at just more than $35.8 million, with about $35.7 million in total expenditures. The excess money will be held in reserve to fund pensions.

The city will have about $20.2 million in its enterprise fund and spend about $19.6 million of that on captial improvement projects, with the rest held in reserve for future projects.

The budget also contains $27 million for community development, $3.7 million of which will be used for affordable housing projects. The city also allocated $2.6 million to its recently established housing authority, which was created to offset the potential loss of redevelopment fund money from the state.

  • adopted an ordinance allowing for the placement of hidden cellular antennas on light poles and underground.
  • renewed its agreement with West Covina for police records management, computer-aided dispatch and mobile data computers.
