Deadline Friday for City Council Nomination Papers

Two council seats are up for grabs in the Fountain Valley City Council. But to get there you must file all the necessary paperwork with the City Clerk's Office this week.

The deadline for filing nomination papers for the November election of the Fountain Valley City Council is five days away, on Friday, August 10, at the City Clerk’s office.

Although City Hall will be closed this Friday, the City Clerk's Office will remain open, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 pm. for council candidates to file their paperwork. Normal business hours are 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday and alternating Fridays.

The Fountain Valley City Council has two seats up for grabs in 2012. Council member Larry Crandall has elected not to run again, leaving his seat open, and council member Steve Nagel's seat is up for re-election, for which he is a candidate.

As of last Friday, six local citizens have pulled papers. They are (in order of when the paperwork was pulled) Duy T. Nguyen, Steve A. Nagel (incumbent), Bryan Tice, Ronald D. Gable, Cheryl Brothers and Patrick Tucker.

To be eligible, a candidate must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years of age by Election Day, a registered voter and a resident of the city. Council members are elected for four-year terms.

All forms required for nomination and election to municipal office must be filed with the city clerk’s office as of Friday, August 10 at 5:00 p.m.

Although it is not necessary to call ahead to schedule an appointment to file papers, it is recommended that prospective candidates do so to ensure ample time to thoroughly review the filing requirements and to answer any questions.
