Former Fountain Valley mayor Gus Ayer has died, according to news reports. He was 63.
The cause of death was unknown.
Ayer, a city councilman from 2002 to 2008 and mayor in 2007, was also known for his environmental activism, according to the OC Register.
The Kansas native "was incredibly smart, a real numbers guy and he read absolutely everything," Fountain Valley Councilwoman Cheryl Brothers told The Register. "He will be missed."
