Fountain Valley Council to Consider Repeal of Sign Code

Wholesale changes are being proposed to bridge gaps in the existing code.

The Fountain Valley City Council will consider an ordinance Tuesday night that would repeal the city's sign code in its entirety.

Several changes to the existing sign code have been proposed in an effort to give more local businesses the opportunity to promote themselves through the use of larger monument signs. The new sign code would also allow the use of monument signs on multi-family and condominium buildings.

Another major element of the proposed changes is the elimination of the planning commission's sign committee. Under the new sign code, permits would be processed administratively by staff, which in turn would reduce revenue from permit applications by about 75 percent.
